High-level E.U. official heads to Syria

Javier Solana will travel to Syria this week. Israeli officials opposed the visit to Damascus by the European high representative
for external relations, Syria’s first high-level E.U. contact since the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in 2005. Solana also will visit Saudi
Arabia and Lebanon
on Monday.
