Rabbi Mark Golub is president and CEO of Shalom TV, a Jewish television network that provides 50 hours of Jewish and Israeli video on demand every month to subscribers in Philadelphia and Delaware.

When he launched the venture last August, Golub said he was leery about offering Hebrew-language Israeli films and TV shows because of the notorious dislike of subtitles by Americans.

Instead he has found they are very popular with his subscribers only American feature films are requested more often. In February, Israel Rocks, made for Israeli television, was one of the station s most-viewed products.

Israeli films, both features and documentaries, do very well on Shalom TV, and we didn t expect that, Golub says. It s a pleasant surprise.
