Nashville is
reconsidering a citywide election date because it falls on Rosh Hashanah.
Metro Nashville set Sept. 13 as a runoff date should leading
candidates in the Aug. 2 elections for mayor, vice mayor and city council fail
to achieve more than 50 percent of the vote.
Lawyers for the city approved the date, saying those
observing the holiday could vote early or by absentee ballot; the election
commission approved it last month 3-2.
A Jewish resident sued, and now commissioners are set
to meet Monday to reconsider the date. Two commissioners who approved the date
told the Nashville Tennessean that are ready to reconsider their decision.
