A controversial Israeli Arab lawmaker tendered his resignation. Azmi Bishara, who has been out of the country since
before police announced this month he was being investigated on criminal allegations, informed the Israeli Embassy in Cairo on Sunday
that he was quitting the Knesset.
A gag order prevents publication of details on the probe
against Bishara, 50, who has long courted controversy in Israel by
making solidarity visits to enemy Arab countries. He has denied wrongdoing
but indicated he was staying away from Israel for fear of
prosecution.
