A group of women representing mainstream U.S. churches is traveling to Israel and the Palestinian areas to assess the plight of women and children there. “Women look at issues of children and what’s going to happen to the family,” said Rev. Thelma Chambers-Young, a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., from Oklahoma City, who led the National Council of Churches delegation that left Wednesday for a two-week tour. “We thought that, from the perspective of women as peacemakers, this would be an interesting way to look at this.” Other delegates represent Episcopal, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, Methodist and Swedenborgian denominations.
