The conclusions of Israel’s commission of inquiry into last summer’s Lebanon war will be delayed until October. The commission’s final report originally was expected in late August, but logistical challenges have delayed the report, political sources said. The delay could help keep Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s government together. His biggest partner, the Labor Party under Ehud Barak, has vowed to quit the coalition if Olmert does not step down by the time the Winograd Commission publishes its conclusions. The panel’s interim report in April savaged Olmert and then-Defense Minister Amir Peretz for their inept handling of last year’s 34-day offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
