President Bush nominated the top fund-raiser for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign to the board overseeing a government volunteer agency.
Bush tapped Alan Solomont, a Jewish philanthropist based in Massachusetts, to complete the final two years of a five-year term as a director of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Solomont, along with being the top fund-raiser for Obama (D-Ill.), also was a lead fund-raiser for the 2004 presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). He is a backer of the Israel Policy Forum, a group seeking greater U.S. engagement in the Middle East.
