Bashar Assad said Syria will not participate in November’s peace parley.
In an interview with two Lebanese newspapers, the Syrian dictator said the U.S.-brokered peace conference scheduled for November has no chance of success and should include discussions on the Golan Heights, which Israel captured in the 1967 Six-Day War.
Assad confirmed Turkey was trying to mediate between Syria and Israel. He said Syria would accept no less than a full handover of the Golan.
The Bush administration has said it will invite Syria to the talks, though the guest list and the agenda have not yet been made public.
