Nicholas Winton was hospitalized for exhaustion after a week of receiving honors and awards.
The 98-year-old British Jew , who saved more than 669 mostly Czech Jewish children from the Nazis just before Germany invaded Czechoslovakia in 1939, was hospitalized in Prague Thursday due to exhaustion, according to Czech media reports Sunday.
Winton had been receiving awards all week for organizing transports for the children to Britain. Through his efforts there are 5,000 descendents of the children he saved.
Starting last weekend Winton attended the Forum 2000 conference in Prague on democracy under the auspices of former President Vaclav Havel.
He received honors and awards from the current Czech president, Vaclav Klaus, as well as the foreign and defense ministers. Winton was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by more than 30,000 Czech schoolchildren who signed a petition supporting his candicacy.
