Hamas wants its own Hollywood

Hamas plans to build a studio complex and entertainment center in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Islamist group announced this week that it has started raising funds for a planned $200 million project in Gaza which would offer “world-class” television and film-production facilities as well as leisure activities.

But the chances of Hamas drawing the necessary foreign investment appeared slim given its international isolation. Most outside production companies are also unlikely to come to Gaza, which has limited amenities and carries the risk of intra-Palestinian violence or Israeli military raids.
