A commander of Croatian fascist troops accused of persecuting Jews died.
Ivo Rojnica, a Dubrovnik-based commander of the Ustashe force that was allied with the Nazis, died Dec. 1 in Argentina. He was 93.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center had accused Rojnica, a general, of crimes against Serbs, gypsies and Jews in the Dubrovnik region.
The Argentine media reported that Rojnica had issued orders for the confiscation of Jewish property and for limiting the rights of Jews, charges he denied.
Rojnica moved to Argentine in 1947 under the alias of Ivan Rajcinovic. Four years later he received Argentine papers, and later launched proceedings to reclaim his old surname. In the early 1990s he officially represented the Croatian state in Argentina.
