An Israeli army psychiatrist received a suspended prison sentence for offering to spy for Iran and Hamas.

The Tel Aviv District Court handed David Shamir, a reserve major in the military medical corps, a five-year suspended jail sentence Thursday as part of a plea bargain.

Shamir confessed to trying to contact Iran, Hamas and Russian intelligence with an offer to sell them classified information on Israel’s wartime planning. The overtures were not answered.

Shamir voiced remorse in court, saying he had wanted to amass enough money to be able to relocate abroad with his family.
