Wasserman Schultz back on ‘Red to Blue’ team

A rising Jewish U.S. congresswoman will help lead an effort to win congressional seats from Republicans.

The Democratic congressional campaign committee on Thursday named Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) as one of three co-chairs of the “Red to Blue” program, which attempts to turn Republican “red” states to Democratic “blue.”

Wasserman Schultz co-chaired the successful 2006 “Red to Blue” effort with Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.); Democrats won back the U.S. House of Representatives that year with 30 new seats. Van Hollen now chairs the Democratic congressional campaign committee.

Wasserman Schultz, elected in 2004, is seen as a rising star in the party. Only in her second term, she already has a coveted spot on the House Appropriations Committee and is a deputy whip in the House.

She also helped lead the successful Florida primary campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and was among the first thanked by Clinton at this week’s victory party there.
