Two suburban New York Jewish buildings were damaged by fires in unrelated incidents.
Arson is not suspected in either of the fires that broke out early Tuesday morning, Newsday reported.
One that began in the storage area of the Adolph Schreiber Hebrew Academy in Monsey damaged the school’s synagogue but did not burn its six Torah scrolls.
A fire at the Temple Israel complex in Great Neck on Long Island destroyed a second-floor ballroom. Two classrooms below also suffered water damage.
Some 200 firefighters battled the blaze, which began when a pile of sawdust ignited. The sawdust was from a floor that had been sanded.
