The lobbyist at the center of impropriety allegations targeting John McCain once advocated for Israelis missing in action.
Vicki Iseman was named last week by The New York Times as a lobbyist who allegedly was key in persuading the U.S. senator from Arizona to intercede with federal broadcast regulators on behalf of clients who donated to his 2000 presidential campaign.
Advisers to McCain at the time also believed the two were having an affair and went to great lengths to keep them separate.
At about the same time, Iseman joined with lawyer Alyza Lewin in representing the Washington interests of the International Coalition for Missing Israeli Soldiers. U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) thanked Iseman and Lewin for their efforts in the Congressional Record that year.
The coalition collapsed in 2005 due to lack of funding.
McCain lost the 2000 bid for the Republican nomination to George W. Bush but now has all but secured it.
