The U.S. Helsinki Commission will hear testimony on a Polish Jewish museum and a congressional bill to fund it.
Ewa Wierzycka, the deputy director of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw; Sigmund Rolat, the chairman of the museum’s North American council; and Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, a Polish undersecretary of state, will testify Thursday at a hearing co-chaired by U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) and U.S. Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.).
A statement by the congressional commission, which monitors human rights overseas, said the witnesses will describe the “vision” that led to the museum’s creation.
A bill allocating $5 million to the museum, initiated by another Helsinki commissioner, Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), passed overwhelmingly last year in the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently under consideration in the Senate.
