An Israeli-Arab author is on the short list for a prestigious international literary prize.
Sayed Kashua’s “Let it be Morning” is among eight books competing for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, which will be announced June 12.
“Let it be Morning,” a drama that explores the ethnic and religious challenges facing Israel’s Arab minority, was written in Hebrew and translated into English by Miriam Shlesinger.
Kashua, a columnist with Ha’aretz, recently won popular acclaim in Israel by producing “Arab Labor,” a satirical television series about racial tensions in the Jewish state.
Two other Arab authors, from Lebanon and Algeria, are vying for the $156,400 literary prize.
