One of the first lesbian couples to legally marry in California did so under a chupah.

Diane Olson and Robin Tyler, among the original plaintiffs to sue the state to legalize same-sex marriages, were married Monday evening under a chupah on the steps of the Beverly Hills Courthouse, the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles reported.

The couple, which has been together 14 years, applied annually for a marriage license for eight years.

The California Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage this month.

A Reform rabbi officiated at the ceremony, which included the traditional seven wedding blessings and the reading of the ketubah, or Jewish marriage contract. Dozens of family and friends gathered around the couple.

Beverly Hills Police prevented a small group of protesters nearby from disturbing the ceremony.
