Cooperation, not competition, is needed to strengthen Argentina’s Jewish education system, a new report says.
The document, which studied the challenges of Jewish education in Argentina and was nine months in the making, was presented Monday by Jewish school directors and presidents at the Buenos Aires AMIA central Jewish center.
The Forum for Strategic Design of the Argentine Jewish Educational System said that Jewish education in Argentina would benefit from a joint school system with common standards, as well as a focus on cooperation.
The forum’s recommendations included the creation of an ethics’ code, regular reviews, scholarship policies and the construction of alternative models for helping smaller Jewish communities throughout Argentina.
“This is just the beginning,” said AMIA executive director, Daniel Pomerantz. Started in September 2007 under former AMIA President Luis Grynwald, the project will continue to be supported by the community, the new AMIA president, Guillermo Borger, confirmed .
