The American Joint Distribution Committee is collecting donations to benefit Pakistani earthquake victims.
Wednesday’s earthquake, which registered 6.5 on the Richter scale, left hundreds dead and thousands homeless.
The JDC will be collecting donations on a nonsectarian basis.
The International Blue Crescent — a nongovernmental organization that focuses much of its work in Muslim societies — will partner with JDC in the initiative, according to a JDC news release.
“Thanks to our strong partnerships in the region and around the world, JDC is well-positioned to respond quickly to the needs of the victims of this disaster,” said Steve Schwager, the JDC’s chief executive officer, in the release. “It is our long-standing mission to provide as much help as possible for people whose lives have been suddenly devastated, be it by supplying food, medicines and blankets, or rebuilding schools and homes.â€
In recent aid efforts, the JDC was on the ground in Georgia providing basic necessities and evacuating Jews from the war zone and entered Myanmar’s Irrawaddy Delta to immediately provide water, food and medical supplies to victims of Cyclone Nargis.
