Iran Launches New Rocket

Iran launched a homemade rocket into space, its state media announced.

The rocket, called the Kavosh 2 or Explorer 2, was launched Wednesday as part of Iran’s satellite program amid concerns over the Islamic Republic’s pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The long-range ballistic technology used to put satellites into space can be used as well for launching weapons, Reuters reported.

Earlier this month Iran test-fired a new surface-to-surface missile and said it was ready to defend itself against any enemy, a veiled reference to the Untied States and Israel.
