One Israeli army, two faces

The New York Times decontructs the two very different images the Israeli army is apparently trying to portray on its Web site. In the English version, striking pictures of beautiful, smiling female soldiers. For the Hebrew version, the photos are more, well, male.

Here’s the take in the Times:

The sequence of images of female soldiers on the English-language version of the site, all in distinctly non-threatening poses, closes with another photograph that looks like it could have been torn from a fashion magazine. On the Hebrew-language version of the site, just one of the first seven images of soldiers shows a woman, and the image of the military the site appears to be promoting to Israelis is obviously both more male and more aggressive.
