JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel is a "cancerous tumor," Iran’s spiritual leader said.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, speaking Wednesday at the start of a two-day conference in Tehran to raise money for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, also reportedly said that "The only way to save Palestine is resistance."

Khamenei said that President Obama is following the "wrong path" as his predecessor, George W. Bush, in his relations with Israel.

"Even the new president of America, who has come to power with slogans about changing Bush’s policies, is defending state terrorism by talking about unconditional commitment to Israel’s security," Khamenei said.

Senior members of Arab terrorist organizations attended the conference, according to reports, as did 80 parliamentary delegations from around the world, including Syria and Egypt.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said at the conference that Zionist criminals will eventually be put to death. He called for "a global front against Zionism which would work to support the people in Gaza and in Palestine on the one hand, and work to punish the Zionist criminals on the other hand."
