JERUSALEM (JTA) — Iranian missiles can hit Israel’s nuclear sites, according to the chief of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

"All the nuclear facilities in different parts of the land under the occupation of the Zionist regime are in the reach of Iran’s missile defenses," Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander in chief of the Revolutionary Guards, told Iran’s ISNA news agency, according to Reuters.

It is one of the first times that Iran, which has long said that it has missiles that can reach Israel, mentioned specific targets.

"The doctrine of our system is defensive, but in the case of any action by enemies, including the Zionist regime, we will respond firmly using missiles and deter attacks," Jafari added.

Iran has said in the past that it would hit Israel if attacked by any third country. Israel has said it would use military action against Iran if diplomacy by the United States fails.

Israel is widely believed to have nuclear weapons but has never confirmed or denied it.
