NEW YORK (JTA) — Rabbi Steven Wernick was tapped to lead the Conservative movement’s synagogue association.
Wernick, the spiritual leader at Adath Israel in suburban Philadelphia, will succeed Rabbi Jerome Epstein as executive vice president of the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism.
His appointment completes a sweeping transformation that has seen changes at the top of the movement’s three main institutions.
At the Jewish Theological Seminary, Arnold Eisen was installed as chancellor in 2007, and this summer Rabbi Julie Schonfeld will become the chief executive of the Rabbinical Assembly.
