JERUSALEM (JTA) — Four Jewish settlers were arrested for firing on a Palestinian village in the West Bank.

The four residents of Bat Ayin, including two Israeli soldiers at home on leave, were arrested Saturday evening.

They were among the dozens of community members who had gathered to mark the 30 days since the murder of a local teen by an axe-wielding Palestinian from the village of Khirbet Safa, Ha’aretz reported.

The men opened fire on Khirbet Safa without provocation, according to news reports. Residents of Bat Ayin told the Jerusalem Post that the shots were fired after Palestinians came upon the group and started throwing rocks.

A riot between the village’s residents and Israeli troops started after the shots were fired, according to reports. Two Palestinians reportedly were injured by Israeli soldiers during the riots.
