JERUSALEM (JTA) — Police investigators have recommended that Ehud Olmert be indicted for unlawful political appointments.

The appointments were made during the former prime minister’s term as industry, trade and labor minister from 2003 to 2006, and as mayor of Jerusalem from 1993 to 2003.

The recommendation of charges of fraud and breach of trust from the police national fraud squad was announced Monday.

Police said the evidence shows that 260 members of the Likud Central Committee received political appointments or illegal benefits from Olmert and his staff, Ha’aretz reported. Olmert was a member of the Likud Party before joining the breakaway Kadima Party.

Several hours earlier in the day, Israel’s attorney general had announced that he was closing another corruption case against Olmert, over receiving a kickback on the purchase of his Jerusalem home, due to a lack of evidence.
