I’ll be checking out a panel discussion at 4 p.m. hosted by the Jewish Communal Service Association and the UJA-Federation of New York about the challenges facing the Jewish community.

The discussion will feature Arnold Eisen, chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary; Larry Moses, president of the Wexner Foundation, and Jodi Schwartz, the chair of the UJA’s women’s division; it is being hosted by the Jewish Agency’s director of education, Alan Hoffmann.

It is part of a celebration in honor of John Ruskay, who is now celebrating his 10th year as the CEO of UJA.

The conversation will focus on how the community has changed during the past 10 years.

I’ll be at the event, called Moving Forward: Challenges and Opportunities, which will take place at Lighthouse International in New York. But anyone can check out a live Web cast of the discussion here.

I’ll have more on this in the newsletter and blog later this week.

Here’s the release with all of the details:

JCSA is delighted that UJA-Federation of New York has invited us to webcast this important program to our membership and the broader community.

This December, John S. Ruskay is celebrating his 10th year as UJA-Federation of New York’s executive vice president and CEO.  Since coming to UJA-Federation 17 years ago, he has had an immeasurable impact on the New York Jewish community and beyond.  The forthcoming issue of the JCSA Journal of Jewish Communal Service was created to mark this occasion, "Strengthening the Jewish Community: The Role of the Federation-A Case Study in New York (1999-2009)". This program was developed by UJA-Federation of New York in honor of John to celebrate a decade of leadership and accomplishment.

The panel will draw lessons and implications from the forthcoming journal issue and will reflect on UJA-Federation of New York’s challenges and accomplishments during this past decade.  John will then discuss his vision for the future.  We believe that this will be an important learning opportunity for all who work on behalf of the Jewish community and encourage you to watch and listen.
