If you’re looking for free High Holiday services, how about turning on the TV?
Shalom TV is telecasting High Holiday services on cable and online the week of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The cable offering is a first for Jewish viewers, according to the company.
Growing numbers of non-Orthodox synagogues and other Jewish institutions already stream holiday services live on the Internet, for their homebound or faraway members. Others do it as an outreach service to unaffiliated Jews.
Cable TV is another step-up in the process–or setback, if you don’t like the idea of cameras on chag.
Shalom TV’s Rosh Hashanah services will be available 24/7 from Sept. 5-11, and Yom Kippur from Sept. 12-18. Check with your cable provider for access, or go to http://shalomtv.org/findus.htm.
Apparently the troops will be tuning in as well – the Jewish Chaplain’s Council of the Armed Forces has sent word about the online services to active-duty Jewish chaplains around the world.
