(JTA) — A Torah scroll was stolen from a synagogue in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Torah scroll and several other religious items were discovered missing early Monday morning from the Young Israel of Phoenix.
Police do not suspect hate crime as a motive because the synagogue was not vandalized as part of the attack, Fox reported.
The stolen Torah scroll is valued at $35,000. But the value goes much deeper, the synagogue’s Rabbi Reuven Mann told Azfamily.com.
“It’s emotionally devastating to the community," he said. "The Torah became a part of our lives and our soul.”
It was the third time that security at the synagogue had been breached since February, Mann told the Arizona Republic.
