I read Hilary Larson’s Travel article with sadness, but I was not surprised (“When Anti-Semitism Is Part Of The Vacation,” Dec. 31). What saddens me even more is that many of our Jewish youth have picked up the characteristics of modern European society, namely having very few, if any, children, and relentless criticism of Israel.
This is directly related to two problems often discussed in The Jewish Week: the difficulty in attracting young people into Jewish communal life and the lack of emotional attachment to Israel. Perhaps if parents would encourage their children to attend less prestigious universities and use the money they save to assist them at starting families at a younger age we could make inroads at solving both problems.
