In the Twitterverse, the Republican Jewish Coalition has a beef with seven Senate Dems who are pressing their GOP House colleagues to repudiate Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for wanting to cut off aid to Israel.
Here’s what’s irking the RJC, from the Dems’ letter:
Recently, Republican Senator Rand Paul suggested that the United States should “halt all foreign aid including its financial aid to Israel.” These remarks are alarming and aim to weaken the decades-long bipartisan consensus on U.S. support for Israel.
There weren’t really "remarks" — Paul answered "yes," when pressed, hard by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, as I noted in my brief at the time. And the part in quotes? Not Paul, but a paraphrase of the story by my colleague, Natasha Mozgovoya at Ha’aretz.
That’s slippery, but this is even worse, opening the same letter:
We write in light of recent statements that demonstrate the intent of certain Senators to eliminate foreign aid funding to the nation of Israel.
"Certain Senators?" So far, I can only see one Rand Paul.
