NEW YORK (JTA) — Iran will fire long-range missiles during a naval drill in the Gulf, a semi-official Iranian news agency reported.

This show of force comes in the wake of an Iranian threat on Tuesday to close shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz if Iran becomes the targets of an oil embargo over its nuclear ambitions. The drill is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Iranian long-range missile systems include the Shahab-3, a weapon that could reach Israel.

Last Saturday Iran began a 10-day naval drill in the Gulf. Iranian media has said that this exercise is different from previous ones in terms of “the vastness of the area of action and the military equipment and tactics that are being employed.”
