(JTA) — A 7-year-old girl died after getting swept up in an overflowing stream near Modi’in Illit.
An Israeli rescue worker told Haaretz that the girl was swept away on Friday by a stream that had overrun its banks and took out a street. Her body was recovered by police and volunteers.
Israel has been hit by severe storms this week. Just over an inch of snow fell in Jerusalem overnight Thursday and forecasters are expecting at least four more inches Friday.
In a separate incident, an elderly women died en route to the hospital when the ambulance slid on an icy road.
