(JTA) — Israeli military planes were accused of attacking a warehouse of advanced Russian-made S-300 missiles in the Syrian port city of Latakia.
Syrian opposition groups, the Lebanese media and Palestinians websites claimed the attack on Sunday night was carried out by Israeli fighter planes.
The Israeli military has not commented on the claims, which have not been independently verified by Israeli news sources.
Lebanese media sites, including Hezbollah’s Al-Manar network and the Voice of Lebanon radio, reported Sunday that Israeli Air Force planes were flying in Lebanese airspace, including over Beirut.
In recent months, Israel has been accused of several attacks on weapons targets in Syria, including near Latakia, some of which were verified by U.S. officials.
Israel has said it will not get involved in Syria’s nearly 3-year-old civil war, but has indicated that it will attack weapons stockpiles in order to prevent them from falling into the hands of Hezbollah, a terrorist group.
