JERUSALEM (JTA) — The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and consulate in Jerusalem warned Americans visiting or living in Israel to avoid demonstrations.
An email and post on the embassy website Wednesday cautioned Americans about demonstrations and police activities that are ongoing in various parts of Jerusalem, including the Shuafat, Beit Hanina and Wadi Joz neighborhoods. It also informed recipients that the Jerusalem light rail system was limiting its service.
The warning is in connection with Palestinian demonstrations and riots in the wake of the discovery of the body of a Palestinian teen in the Jerusalem Forest, which Palestinians believe is in revenge for the murder of three kidnapped Israeli teens who were buried on Tuesday.
“We remind you to be aware of your surroundings at all times, monitor the media, and avoid demonstrations and other crowds as they can turn violent without warning,” the warning said.
The consulate is monitoring the situation “closely,” according to the warning.
