Thank you, Gary Rosenblatt, for writing such an important column (“With New Coalition, Setbacks Feared On Religious Freedoms,” Editor’s column, May 8).
It is both sad and crucial that people know what is going on in Israel on this front. This latest example of religious extremism, at the expense of the Jewish people, could be detrimental to the soul of Israel and the Jewish people. A need for safety and security doesn’t have to come at the expense of freedom of religious expression, especially in this Rehovot case, when all the families involved [in the planned bar and bat mitzvah of four children with severe autism] were comfortable with the ceremony taking place in a Masorti congregation.
