Gary Rosenblatt has it wrong. A Jewish leader’s intended visit to the grave of mass murderer Yasir Arafat is not an issue about which we can “disagree,” and Rabbi Neil Blumofe, even though well regarded, is not the “victim” (“Anatomy Of A Takedown,” Sept. 2). The victims are the tens of thousands of Israelis whose blood is on Arafat’s hands and for whom Blumofe’s intended visit is an unforgiveable insult.
And the bad guys are not those who stand up for Israel, even though a few do go over the line, as with any group. The bad guys are too many of our Jewish organizations that simply ignore Palestinian murder and delegitimization of Israelis and attempt to force a two-state solution on Israel for “her own good,” a form of political rape, a solution which the democratically elected leaders of Israel regard as exceedingly dangerous and premature.
Rabbi Blumofe should set an example to our community by doing teshuvah, publicly admitting to a rare instance of poor judgment, which is how real leaders handle mistakes these days. And our community needs to do teshuva over our idolatrous worship of a two-state solution.
