Regarding “Sharp Debate Over CUNY Graduation Speaker” (April 28): I am a graduate of the City University of New York School of Nursing at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, and immediately got a job in the field of nursing as an HIV/AIDS specialist. There are so many health care workers who work in our city hospitals such as Elmhurst and Bellevue Hospitals, who could make better speakers than Linda Sarsour.
Filipino nurses are at the forefront of providing excellent nursing care to thousands of New Yorkers, many without insurance such as Medicaid. There are nurses in the field of administration and quality assurance management who have toiled for years as unsung heroes in the New York State health care system, who could be a true model of excellence in the health care industry for our CUNY School of Public Health graduates.
I simply do not understand why Linda Sarsour was chosen to be a speaker. I was so sad and shocked when I learned of this news.
