I was horrified to read the notice in The Jewish Week of the National Council of Young Israel gala with master of ceremony Pete Hegseth of Fox News and guest speakers Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. They are supporters of an administration that couldn’t be more anti-Torah in ideals and actions.
Rabbi Akiva said, “Love your fellow as yourself.” Yet these men who are being honored support an administration that has literally taken children from their parents and locked them in cages.
Young Israel’s mission statement professes to “maintain a program of spiritual … activity towards the advancement and perpetuation of traditional Torah-true Judaism; and to instill into American Jewish youth an understanding and appreciation of the high ethical and spiritual values of Judaism.” Do Young Israel’s leaders not see the hypocrisy of what they profess to stand for and who they honor and support?
