Regarding the recent article, “Why Charedim Are At The Center Of The Measles Outbreak” (April 5), if I need halachic advice, I go to a rabbi, and if I need medical advice, I go to a physician. I would never expect a rabbi to give medical advice on a subject with which he or she is unfamiliar. I was therefore shocked at the temerity of Rabbi Mordechai Shain in expressing his opinions regarding vaccinations. His remarks reveal a lack of understanding of the basics of vaccines and their importance.
It all boils down to one basic concept: Vaccines protect our children and community from severe illness, and possible death. The science is readily available proving this basic fact.
