Michael Fromm had an interesting op-ed on a strategy for dealing with anti-Semitism (“We Need A Comprehensive Strategy For Fighting Anti-Semitism,” Aug. 2). I would add to his list: Do not vote for those who are anti-Semitic or show such tendencies.
While it may seem obvious to some, how many Jews voted for Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar and may even do so again in the 2020 election? All of these U.S. representatives, by the way, voted against the anti-boycott, divestment, and sanctions resolution, which passed July 23 in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 398 to 17.
Joining them as one of 17 in voting against the resolution was New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Dist. 12), the only representative in the N.J. congressional delegation to vote against the resolution. Bet you saw little or no coverage of this. Coleman’s excuse was that boycotts proved useful in the battle for civil rights — in the best light, her reasoning was totally irrelevant. Three champions of civil rights in her own Democratic Party, Reps. Jim Clyburn (S.C.), John Lewis (Ga.), and Elijah Cummings (Md.) had no such problem.
Hope New Jersey voters let her know what they think of her vote.
