1,000 Persons Investigated by War Crimes Commission in Germany

Premier Kurt Georg Kiesinger told the Baden-Wurt-temberg Diet today that the Central War Crimes Commission, which has its headquarters here, has investigated 310 Nazi war crimes and about 1,000 persons accused of having a role in them since the commission’s establishment in December, 1958.

In all cases where crime had been established, he said, the commission had referred the cases to the competent local prosecution authorities. The commission, he said, made special efforts to act in cases before the statute of limitations on manslaughter charges entered into effect.

The commission is currently investigating 275″crime complexes, ” the state official said, It has recently-received a list of 350 alleged war criminals from ‘the’ Yad Vashem, the Israel Nazi documentation center.
