Five thousand Gentile children will be asked to join 10,000 Jewish children in prayer at a Rally of Hope and Courage in Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon, June 6, it was announced here today. The Rally will constitute a gigantic appeal for immediate aid to the starving and oppressed children in Nazi-occupied Europe.
A declaration signed by 100,000 Jewish children in religious schools throughout the country, to be sent to President Roosevelt, will be presented at the Rally. The declaration states: “We can enjoy no happiness, nor can we rest while those of our blood, Jewish children and their parents, are tortured and put to death by a barbarous enemy. Their sorrow is our sorrow, their misery cannot be forgotten, nor can their tormentors be forgiven.”
An historic pageant, depicting the present plight of Jewish children in conquered countries, will feature this Rally. Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, honorary president of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations of America, will act as chairman; Paul Muni and Eddie Cantor will serve as honorary chairmen. Collective prayers will be offered, and there will be brief addresses by the most prominent among the two hundred sponsoring rabbis.
