Eleven Israeli scientists are participating in the seventh International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnographic Sciences, opened here Sunday, the Hovosti Press Agency reported today. The Israeli delegation, headed by Prof. Levinsky, is on the agenda for a total of nine scientific papers.
The first of the Israeli papers, delivered today by Dr. Zvi Rudy, professor of sociology and philosophy at Tel Aviv University, was received with great interest by the 650 foreign delegates and 300 Soviet scientists attending the Congress. Prof. Rudy’s topic was “The Central Problem of Ethnosociology.”
Commenting on the results of the opening days of the Congress, and on its agenda, Prof. Levinsky told Novosti: “The Moscow forum of scientists is of tremendous interest. I am sure it will serve the cause of progress and peace.”
Racism and “nationalistic theories” were condemned at the Congress in the keynote speech delivered by Konstantin Rudney, deputy chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers. He told the scientists: “There is no nobler task today than the strengthening of peace and friendship among nations. This is the urgent demand of life. Soviet scientists and all the Soviet people emphatically condemn misanthropic racist and nationalistic theorist that sow distrust and enmity among peoples, and breed hatred and war.”
