Approximately $150,000 has been raised toward the construction of an inter-faith chapel here to honor four chaplains of the Jewish, Catholic and Protestant faiths who died aboard a torpedced troop transport in 1943 after they had given their life preservers to soldiers who had none.
The chapel, which will be known as the “Chapel of the Four Chaplains,” will honor Baptist Rev. Clark V. Poling, Mothodist Rev. George L. Fox, Catholic Rev. John P. Washington and Rabbi Alexander Goode.
