Four hundred Polish Jews Thursday went on a pilgrimage to Lyegyman, Lithuania, to visit and pray at the graves of famous rabbis there. Despite the fact that the Polish-Lithuanian border is officially closed because of the strained diplomatic relations which have been existing between the two countries during the past few years, special permission was granted by both the Polish and Lithuanian governments to these Jewish pilgrims to cross the border. The pilgrimage, which is an annual Tisha B’Ab affair, had encountered difficulties in crossing the border in former years.
