Outmatching the Garden in securing stellar attractions for the professional basketball fan, the New York Coliseum carded a double-header that should attract a capacity crowd.
The “Red” Wolfe All-Stars are meeting the Mount Vernon quintet in the opening bill. The Metros, the nearest thing to the Original Celtics that this country has seen, are paired with the House of David five in the feature attraction of the evening.
The Metros, composed of former City College stars, are almost an all-Jewish aggregation. Led by Lou Spindell, captain of the C. C. N. Y. team, and adjudged the most valuable man in professional basketball last season, the team consists of the following:
Moe Goldman, captain of the 1933 quint; Moe Spahn, leader of the 1923 outfit; Frankie De Phillips and Art Musicant, captains of the 1930 and 1929 fives, respectively, and Dutch Kaufman and Lou Wishnewitz, of the 1932 team. The Metros loom as one of the strongest basketball combinations in the East.
The opening game will start at 8:30. The Coliseum is located at East 177th street in the Bronx.
