Some 2,000 delegates attending the Jewish National Fund Conference here today called upon President John F. Kennedy to reject the proposal in the United Nations offering the Arab refugees a choice between repatriation to Israel or resettlement in Arab countries. The resolution urged the President to create a “unified” Government policy on the Middle East including the possible convocation of a peace parley between the Arab states and Israel.
A total of $100,000 was raised at the conference, Speakers included Senator Maurine Neuberger of Oregon and Rabbi Max Nussbaum, president of the Zionist Organization of America. Milan Roven, industrialist, was elected president of the Los Angeles Council of the JNF. Ben Swig, president of the JNF Western Region, announced at the conference that a forest would be planted in Israel in honor of President Kennedy in appreciation of his handling of the Cuban crisis in a manner which averted war.
