The Italian authorities have permitted 300 Jewish students of Polish nationality attending Pisa University to complete this year’s studies and take examinations, but refused to give assurances regarding next year, stating that the final decisions would be taken during the vacation.
The 300, most of them medical students, had been threatened with expulsion by the Italian Ministry of Education on the ground they had been admitted to the university without the previous consent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is now obligatory for all foreign students in Italy.
The Jewish students sent a special delegation to the Minister of Education, and also wrote to Premier Benito Mussolini for permission to continue their studies. The in their behalf by the Polish Ambassador.
